This past weekend one of our sons played the piano at a wedding we attended.
He did a beautiful job.
He's not a professional or anything... but he's developed his gift in a way that inspires and enriches the lives of those who hear him play.
As I sat there listening to the music -- and taking in the rest of the wedding environment -- it occurred to me how much God has blessed us with beauty.
He hasn't just made a world that's functional... but one that blooms with artistry and glory.
Sure, there's a type of beauty that's merely external and deceptive... and the Bible warns us about that.
But the garden of Eden, the temple, the new Jerusalem... as well as the sun, moon, stars, rocks, trees, mountains and oceans, etc... reveal how beauty is important to God.
And it's fitting that whatever He gives us to do ought to be done beautifully as well.
It may take a little extra, but it seems the work that's most faithfully done is also the most beautifully done.
And... God has made us in such a way it also seems to be the most satisfying.
