Staying compassionate when your mission is hard

One of the amazing things about Jesus is how He never lost compassion while on His mission to lay down His life for us.

That's worth noticing.

I know it's something I need to remember...

When I'm headed somewhere and run into a crowd, I can think...

'What are all these people doing here?'

'You're in my way...'

'I'm on a mission and you're slowing me down!'

But Jesus didn't think that way.

When Jesus saw crowds He had compassion for them (Mt.14:14, Mk.6:34, 8:2-3).

And He maintained this compassion right up to the end... even on the cross...

... where He showed compassion toward a thief (Lk.23:39-43)... His mother (Jn.19:26-27)... and even those who were executing Him (Lk.23:34).

Amazing.

Jesus's focus on His mission did not lessen his compassion.

And the difficulties and pain that went with it didn't harden His heart.

He could drink the bitter cup the Father had given Him to drink while keeping up His compassion for those around Him...

... because love and compassion is what drove His mission in the first place.

And that's worth remembering as we fulfill whatever calling He's given each of us.
