The New York Yankees have announced they will no longer be playing Kate Smith's recorded version of 'God Bless America' during the seventh-inning stretch.
The reason?
Apparently someone discovered that Smith recorded a few satirical songs with racist overtones back in the 1930s... and when this was brought to the attention of the Yankees, they decided to 'cancel' Kate Smith.
The decision, of course, is just another example of virtue signaling that's so common today.
It also shows how unaware we are of historical context...
... and it especially reveals our need for grace.
But it's kind of scary when you think about it...
Because hey... if somebody unearths a misdeed from any of our pasts... and it offends just the right group... it can be used to undo any of the good our lives have to offer.
Thankfully, God doesn't deal with us that way...
God already knows all our misdeeds... and how we all have sinned and fall short of His glory.
But He doesn't use that knowledge to cancel our lives.
Instead, He acts to restore us and use us for good.
So if you live with a fear of being found out, don't let it paralyze you.
Turn to God and His grace...
... and be on the lookout for the good things He's already planned for you to do.
"For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them." ~ Ephesians 2:8-10
