Ever notice there's something about us that doesn't like to ask for help?
Part of this has to do with not wanting to bother others, for sure.
But at a deeper level lurks pride... as asking for help reveals our inability and need...
... and we don't like to expose our neediness.
I think this is a big reason why Good Friday makes us uncomfortable.
By focusing on Christ's death on the cross -- as we do on Good Friday -- we are brought face to face with our need.
It reminds us we're so flawed in our natural condition it requires supernatural help...
... the kind of help that's so extreme the Son of God had to come to rescue us by suffering and dying for us.
This makes us uneasy.
It show us undeniably we can't fix ourselves.
And this hurts, because we like to think we can fix ourselves.
But...
As we humble ourselves... and lay aside our pride... and realize God's love for us... by embracing what Christ has done for us on the cross...
... it can completely transform your life.
Because it means through Him you're forgiven.
Guilt has been taken away.
And you're not under condemnation.
Instead, you're a new creation... free to live a new life...
And the kind of life God always intended for you to live...
... as you forget about living independently from Him and trust in Him day by day.
And the resurrection of Jesus makes this certain.
Because just as in Christ's death He delivers us from ourselves, He also in His resurrection delivers us to a new life in Him.
A life where we can say...
"I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me" (Gal.2:20).
