You have to die first

There are a lot of people who want to find where they best fit in life.

They want their lives to count.

And they want to be in the right place for this to happen.

I know this because I talk with such people.

I read about them.

And I think about this myself.

Interestingly, Jesus addresses this very issue when He says:

"For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it; but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it" (Mt.16:25).

So what's Jesus saying here?

We all have ideas of what our lives should look like.

And we work hard to preserve and attain that vision.

But in so doing we can totally miss what He has for us.

Because to really find the life you're meant to live, you have to die first...

You have to die to your own agenda and self-interest and follow Him and the ways of His kingdom.

Dying to yourself is hard.

And He calls us to do this daily (Lk.9:23).

But as we answer this call in faith we end up finding ourselves... as He raises up to the new life we're meant to live.
