Answers to the most basic questions we face today are all found in the book of Genesis...
How did we get here?
... In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth (Gen.1:1).
Are we anything more than sophisticated animals?
... God made us in His image, according to His likeness (Gen.1:26).
How many genders are there?
... He created us male and female (Gen.1:27).
What's our purpose here?
... God calls us to be fruitful, multiply, and rule and cultivate the earth for His glory (Gen.1:28; 2:15).
Why is the world in such a sorry state?
... Because the first man, Adam, who represents us all, failed to guard what was entrusted to him, disbelieved God's Word, and disobeyed Him (Gen.3:4-6).
Why is so much of what we face in life hard?
... Because God judged Adam's rebellion with a curse on all creation so we would learn to seek His grace (Gen.3:17-19).
What is our hope in this life and the next?
... That God's seed -- Jesus Christ -- has crushed the head of the enemy of our souls and is renewing all that He has made (Gen.3:15).
Like I said... it all goes back to Genesis.
And the better grounded we are in this truth, the better equipped we are to live out God's purpose for us in our generation.
