There is a kind of Christian who is perpetually gloomy.
And there is a line of thinking that assumes the gloomier you are the more serious about your faith you must be.
Those who carry this disposition would defend it by claiming they are realists... and that all the awful things about this world justify their pessimism.
But as I see it -- as sincere as they may be -- these folks have latched on to just one part of the Bible...
... the part that reveals the world is fallen.
But they miss how God made the world good...
... and how though it is indeed fallen, He is in the process of making all things new.
We can be assured of this by the death and resurrection of Jesus...
... and the way He completely changed the trajectory of the Father's creation.
So the basic disposition of a believer ought to be optimistic, as I see it.
Because a new heavens and a new earth are taking over the old.
