One of the greatest influences on America's Founding Fathers and their views of liberty was a Scottish minister named John Knox.
Knox himself had very strong views, and was known for the fearless way he rebuked tyrants, defended freedom, and stood for the 'Crown Rights of King Jesus' over all of life.
At some point during his ministry, Knox was asked what made him so bold and courageous.
He answered by saying that he believed in the biblical doctrine of election... and was convinced that if God had chosen Him for eternal life, He also had a purpose for him in this life.
Knox's reasoning was completely in line with that of Jesus who said:
"You did not choose Me but I chose you, and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit..." (Jn.15:16).
This truth that emboldened John Knox around 500 years ago continues to apply today.
If you're a believer, it's because God has chosen you and given you grace to believe.
And with that gift of grace, He's also commissioned you to go and live a fruitful life for Him and His kingdom.
Now with a commission like that, there's no reason to be shy or ashamed about pursuing the unique calling He's given you to fulfill!
