One of my
favorite quotes is from theologian NT Wright who wrote:
"Heaven is important, but it's not the end of the world."
The quote serves as a corrective to a common misunderstanding about heaven.
That is...
Our hope is not that we're 'going to heaven' one day, but that we're
part of a new heaven and a new earth that has already gotten under way thanks to the reign of Jesus (Rev.21:1).
In other words... heaven is not out there somewhere, it's coming here.
That's why Jesus tells us to pray "Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven" (Mt.6:10).
Ponder that long enough and it can
really transform how you view what God has given you to do in the world today!
