If you're like most people, you probably have a hard time remembering the message of the sermons you hear.
I know for a lot of good folks, they can't even recall what the message was about by the time they get to their car in the church parking lot.
This must be why so many passages of the Bible are exhortations to 'remember'...
... because if we don't remember the message God has for us, we can't apply it to our daily lives.
So... is there a way to get better at remembering the message of the sermons you here?
I believe so...
... and here is a simple three-step technique that works well for
me:
1) Try and focus on the Big Idea of sermons as you hear them.
Don't worry about catching every detail. Just keep asking yourself, "What's the Big Idea?"
2) Before you leave the service, write the Big Idea down.
Just scribble it down somewhere on your church
bulletin.
3) Transfer the Big Idea you've written to a 3X5 'prayer card' and pray about how this applies to you regularly.
Here's an example of the card I made yesterday... and am praying about today...
"You can keep your composure and show unconditional love toward those who are different than you because of the love God has
shown you in Christ."
As the weeks roll on, gather your cards in a pile that you can review.
In this way, you can quickly be built up by every sermon you hear.
This technique is not hard.
It just takes a small amount of discipline.
But the personal change that can come from this simple practice can be significant.
