It's well-known that
followers of Jesus are called to grow in maturity.
But what does that look like?
It can all seem a little abstract.
Well here's one overlooked way to think about it...
When Adam ate the forbidden fruit, it was more than an act of disobedience.
It was a display of immaturity.
It was him saying to God, "I know what you want me to do, but I don't care and I'm going to do what I want."
Jesus, as the second Adam, showed us just the
opposite.
Instead of following His own will, He humbled Himself to embrace the Father's mission for His life, even to the point of death.
As sons and daughters of Adam, our natural inclination is to act with the same immaturity he did.
But with each new day God gives us a fresh opportunity to walk in maturity, by taking up our own calling with the same humility and faithfulness Jesus did when He took up His cross.
So the only question is... are we going to live
out today according to our old nature in Adam or the grace that's found in Christ?
