I've never been so encouraged by BBQ...

The other night my wife and I had dinner at the 4 Rivers Smokehouse in Tampa.

What a great experience!

While waiting in line to order, I noticed the company's mission statement posted on the wall.

It read:

"MISSION: To Use Our God-Given Gifts to Support & Serve the Local Community through Exceptional Products, Steadfast Customer Service, and Uncompromised Integrity,"

I always love it when I discover a company that is self-consciously serving God and others through whatever they're called to do.

And from the taste of the BBQ and the friendliness of the employees, you get the impression the people at 4 Rivers Smokehouse are serious about their mission too.

Good for them!

What I really want to relate though is that having a clear mission is not just for companies... or churches or other organizations -- it's for individuals too.

And a big part of fulfilling your own place in the world is living with a constant, self-conscious awareness of the mission God has given you.

P.S. By the way... the name '4 Rivers Smokehouse' comes from the service that pours out of the four members of the Rivers family that founded the company...

... AND, as owner John Rivers notes on the company website, it's also a reference to the four rivers flowing out of the Garden of Eden in the book of Genesis.

What a great name to get their mission out in the open!
