Do you remember how James and John asked Jesus for a place of honor in His kingdom?
Interestingly, Jesus did not rebuke them for their aspirations of greatness.
Yet what He did do was use the occasion to teach His followers not to seek greatness the way the world does.
The world seeks greatness by manipulating
circumstances for personal advantage... so as to lord it over others.
But Jesus tells us it's not to be this way among us.
He says that whoever wishes to be great is to be as a servant (Mark 10:43).
So... according to Jesus, there's nothing wrong with wanting to be great.
... In
fact, the desire to partake of glory and honor is something God seems to have put within us...
We just need to approach greatness different than the world does.
That is... we need to pursue it not by seeking to dominate others, but by taking dominion in our area of calling for the good of those He's put around us to
serve.
