Recently the
teenaged son of a friend of mine, named Jeremiah, was diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer.
Since his diagnosis, Jeremiah's condition has deteriorated rapidly, but he continues to fight on bravely.
A few weeks ago, Jeremiah was given the opportunity to make a wish through the Make a Wish Foundation.
In case you don't
know, the Make a Wish Foundation gives kids with critical illnesses the opportunity to 'make a wish' which the organization then seeks to fulfill.
Typically the wishes involve things like taking a trip to Disney World or meeting a famous celebrity... such as a singer or athlete.
Well, as a faithful Christian, Jeremiah wanted his wish to be more significant.
As he saw it, if he was dying, he really wanted to use every opportunity to advance Christ's kingdom and His righteousness.
So, what was Jeremiah's wish?
He asked to talk with Governor Greg Abbott about prohibiting
abortion in his home state of Texas.
Remarkably, Jeremiah's wish was granted and he had a half hour phone call with the governor.
During the call, Jeremiah made an impassioned plea about protecting the unborn and asked that specific measures be taken in their defense... and the governor agreed to
pursue them.
Quite amazing for a 17-year-old!
When I heard this story, I couldn't help but think what my own dying wish might be...
... and have been challenged to examine my goals in life and how I
should use my days with the health God has given me.
And that, I believe, is a fitting way for anyone to respond to Jeremiah's testimony.
