Let's take a closer
look at the 'let go and let God' approach to life.
I pointed out yesterday that this way of living is misguided because it makes us passive in our relationship with God, instead of active participants in our growth... and the development of our world as He's designed.
To make sure we get this, let me ask you about a few scenarios:
-
Would you want the pilot of the plane you are on to 'let go and let God' if you encountered significant turbulence?
- Would you want any of your children in school to 'let go and let God' if they're under heavy pressure to party rather than study?
- Would you want your doctor to 'let go and let God' if a complication arose during surgery?
- Would you want your spouse to 'let go and let God' if someone was hitting on him or her at the office?
- Would you want the builder of your new house to 'let go and let God' if he was running into difficulty with subcontractors, permits, weather, etc.?
Okay, I'm sure you get the idea...
To rule and cultivate
as God calls us, we've got to actively engage whatever comes our way.
And that means our lives are always going to have a certain amount of responding, resisting, rerouting and persevering in them.
We do these things in dependence on God and His grace -- of course!
But the main idea is that we're to be active, not
passive.
