The Real Reason Men Don’t Move Forward
Many men know what to do.
They just don’t do it.
Instead, they get stuck in
procrastination, overpreparation, and distraction.
As a result, they never fully develop, excel, or fulfill their calling.
And they're frustrated by it.
It can feel like a discipline or motivation issue.
So the natural response is more planning, more information, more waiting until things feel clear.
But knowing what to do isn’t usually the problem.
Dan Sullivan, a coach to entrepreneurs, identifies something deeper.
He calls it courage-avoidance.
There are only two options, he says—courage or courage-avoidance.
Courage-avoidance doesn't look extreme. It might even look responsible.
It shows up as delay. Overpreparation. Staying busy with secondary things. Or waiting to “feel ready.”
But underneath it is a simple refusal: not moving when you already know the next step.
Scripture describes this pattern.
Adam hid after fear entered his story.
The servant buried what he was given because he was afraid.
Israel stood at the edge of the Promised Land
and chose delay instead of obedience.
Different stories. Same pattern.
Fear is real. But it’s not the core issue.
Avoidance is.
And avoidance always finds good reasons.
“I need more time.”
“I should prepare more.”
“I’ll act when things settle down.”
But these often mask a deeper truth: postponing obedience.
So the real question to face is:
Where am I avoiding what I already know to do?
The good news is God does not require perfect readiness.
He calls for faithful action.
Courage is not the absence of fear. It's obedience in
motion.
And a clearer picture often comes after obedience, not before it.
So here’s a challenge for you:
Identify the next step you already know but have been delaying.
And take it before the week is over.
Don't wait until you feel ready.
Just do what you already know to do.
That’s where momentum gets going.
And it's where men grow.
