Every domain trends toward disorder
Every domain trends toward disorder without cultivation.
Most men understand this principle from their yard.
Stop mowing, pruning, and weeding, and disorder quickly takes over.
What is true of a yard is also true of life.
Your relationship
with God becomes distant without prayer and Scripture.
Your marriage weakens without attention and intentionality.
Your body declines without exercise and good
nutrition.
Your finances deteriorate without planning and stewardship.
Your work suffers without focus and discipline.
This is one of the reasons God placed Adam in the garden "to cultivate it and keep it" (Gen. 2:15).
From the beginning, men were called to cultivate what God entrusted to them—to bring order, fruitfulness, and
blessing where neglect would otherwise take over.
We often assume that if we just avoid making mistakes, things will remain stable.
But neutrality is an
illusion.
Nothing is self-maintaining.
Left alone, every area of life moves toward disorder.
The good news is that small acts of faithful cultivation compound over time.
A few moments in prayer. A conversation with your wife. A workout. A review of finances. A focused hour of meaningful work.
The results may seem small at first, but consistent cultivation compounds.
Faithfulness is often less dramatic than we imagine.
It is the steady practice of tending what God has entrusted to us.
Ask God what domain of your life needs cultivation today.
