The cost of doing nothing
Jesus told His followers to count the cost before committing to follow Him.
Most of us hear that and think about what discipleship might require us to give up…
Like comfort or control of our own plans.
But there’s
another cost we don’t talk about much.
The cost of doing nothing.
The cost of staying where you are.
Most men sense that something in their life needs to change.
The thought returns again and again.
But months turn into
years. And no move is ever made.
Scripture gives a sobering picture of this in the Parable of the Talents (Mt. 25).
The servant who buried his talent didn’t steal or
rebel.
He just did nothing with what his master entrusted to him.
And that was the problem.
God entrusts every man with gifts, opportunities, and responsibilities.
Faithfulness means putting those things to work.
When a man delays too long, the cost grows.
The cost of inaction often looks like this:
• Drifting through
life instead of following direction
• Unused gifts and unrealized potential
• Weakened leadership where God entrusted you to lead
• Opportunities for impact that never return
• A smaller life than the one God intended
Scripture urges us to make the most of the opportunities the Lord gives.
And we should take them.
The goal isn’t reckless action, but overcoming complacency to follow God’s lead.
The path forward begins with a right foundation:
Identity and Purpose — knowing who God made you to be
Covenant Faithfulness — walking with God in obedience and
trust
Domain Stewardship — cultivating and keeping what God has entrusted to you
This is how a man moves forward with clarity and purpose.
