Do Not Throw Away Your Confidence
It’s been said that energy and confidence are the marks of a vibrant civilization.
When they wane, decline has already begun—long before collapse becomes visible.
History reinforces this pattern.
Anthropologist J. D. Unwin observed that societies marked by discipline and self-restraint generated cultural energy, creativity, and expansion.
But when restraint faded and pleasure became the aim, vitality diminished within a few generations.
Scripture tells the same story.
When men lived with faith, courage, and moral clarity, Israel flourished.
Yet when conviction weakened and responsibility was neglected, idolatry and disorder followed.
Civilizations are not abstractions—they are built from churches, households, and the character of men.
And the strength of a civilization rises or falls with the character of its men.
...When men lose purpose, cultures lose direction.
...When men lose courage, nations lose confidence.
...When comfort replaces calling, strength drains away.
But decline is not destiny.
The New Testament gives a timely exhortation:
“Do not throw away your confidence, which has a great reward” (Heb. 10:35).
God calls His people not to retreat into fear or cynicism, but to endure with faith-filled courage.
But this courage cannot be self-generated.
The biblical path to renewal is repentance and faith.
Repentance restores clarity. Faith restores courage.
And with these, hope in God restores energy.
Strength for our times will not come through outrage or nostalgia, but through men who humble themselves before God...
... And then step back into their responsibilities with conviction.
Renewed men build renewed cultures. And renewal always begins on our knees.
So let us begin where renewal has always started — with humble hearts, honest repentance, and expectant prayer.
“If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their
land.”
