Saved for a Purpose
One of the first passages of Scripture I memorized as a young Christian was Ephesians 2:8–9:
“For by grace you have been saved through faith… not as a result of works, so that no one may boast.”
Every believer ought to hide these verses in his heart.
They are among the best for establishing us in the grace of God.
We are not saved by performance, effort, or religious striving.
Salvation is a gift.
But we must not stop at verse
9.
Verse 10 completes the picture:
“For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in
them.”
This verse has long shaped my life.
It reminds us that grace and works are not enemies.
Grace is what enables us to faithfully carry out the works God created us to do.
Here’s what this means for men:
The Christian life is about far more than living morally and waiting for heaven.
God has a mission for you.
He has
prepared works for you to walk in—as a husband, father, builder, protector, creator, leader, and servant in His Kingdom.
Your task is to discover those works and carry them out in the power of His Spirit.
You were not only saved from something.
You were saved for something.
