Pride, Humility, and the Hope of Christ
Pride Month is underway.
It has become, in many ways, the longest month of the year.
But these 30 days are not simply something to endure.
They provide an opportunity to consider true virtue and to humbly engage others with grace and truth.
The Bible never presents pride as a virtue to celebrate.
Rather, pride is consistently described as self-exaltation — placing ourselves above God and redefining life on our own terms.
Scripture warns us plainly: “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble” and “Pride goes before destruction.”
This means Pride Month should cause believers to reflect carefully on pride — both in our culture and in our own hearts.
Pride is clearly a problem “out there” in the world.
It is part of the spirit of the age, and the confusion surrounding gender and sexuality is an expression of it.
Yet pride also dwells in us whenever we resist God’s authority and seek to rule our lives apart from Him.
So both the pride “out there” and the pride within us point to our great need for humility.
And it’s the virtue of humility that should shape how we respond.
Not with hatred, mockery, or self-righteousness.
But with conviction, courage, compassion, and a humble commitment to God’s design for life, marriage, sexuality, and identity.
Our posture should be one of prayer and hope.
Because Jesus Christ offers forgiveness, restoration, and true identity to all who come to Him in humility and faith.
So don’t just endure Pride Month. Make use of the opportunities it brings.
Ask God for courage and composure as He leads you to stand for grace and truth this June.
“Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.”
