To Rule or Be Ruled
A lot of men are uncomfortable with the idea of ruling.
I suppose for some it seems harsh and out of place in our egalitarian age.
But let's look at the reality:
God calls men to rule from the very
beginning. It's his first instruction for us.
“Be fruitful. Multiply. Fill the earth. Subdue it. Have dominion…” (Gen. 1:28)
So ruling isn't optional.
It's foundational to what it means to be a man.
But here’s what many miss:
Ruling requires faith.
You don’t lead by sight. You lead by trust.
Think of Abraham.
God called him to uncharted territory—to go without a map, a timeline, or guarantees.
The Fall makes answering a call like this hard for anyone.
Because we are born under the rule of sin, which seeks to shape, govern, and dominate our lives.
Yet through Christ we can overcome.
Jesus came to re-establish the rule of God in the lives of men.
It’s why He began His ministry preaching:
“Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand” (Mt. 3:2).
Jesus didn't just come to forgive you,
He came to restore
you.
“To reign in life through the one man Jesus Christ.” (Romans 5:17)
This means in Him:
You are no longer a slave...You are no longer passive...You are no longer under sin’s authority.
You are called to rule again—this time with Him.
So the question is:
How will you respond?
Will you be ruled by doubts, fears, and
sin itself? Or will you rule with Christ?
Will you rule or be ruled?
There is no neutral ground.
Because righteous rule among men brings freedom.
It brings the life of God’s kingdom into reality.
And it blesses everything under its influence.
