The Greatest Reversal in History
What does the cross mean to you?
For Rome, it was the ultimate weapon.
They used it to kill... in a way that humiliated, dominated, and made an example.
It was reserved for the lowest of the low. A public declaration that power crushes weakness.
But then God stepped in.
And through the cross of
Christ, the symbol of death became the means of life.
What was designed for shame became a display of glory.
What Rome used to assert dominance, God used to demonstrate
sacrificial love.
This is the greatest reversal in history.
And it didn’t just change a moment. It changed the trajectory of the world.
But it doesn’t stop there.
Jesus didn’t just die on a cross. He calls men to take up their own:
“Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it.” (Matthew 16:24–25)
This is where we hesitate.
Because the cross still means death.
Not of the body—but of pride, self-sufficiency, and control.
Yet here's the paradox:
The place that feels like loss becomes the place where you find your life.
The cross you resist is often the path to the man you’re meant to become.
So on this Good Friday, consider:
Where is God calling you to embrace
the cross?
Where does He want you to die?
Because on the other side isn’t defeat.
It’s the life He meant you to live.
So what does the cross mean to you today?
