Building Is Better
Years ago, someone told me it’s easier to critique than to build.
That convicted me—because criticism came easy.
Since then, I’ve focused on building, not just critiquing.
Looking back, I can say this:
Building is better.
And it’s biblical
too.
Scripture consistently pushes us in this direction.
“Encourage one another and build one another up…” (1 Thess. 5:11).
“Let your words be good for building up…” (Eph. 4:29).
That’s the standard.
Edify. Build.
But it’s not just about words.
It shows up in what you do.
“In all toil there is profit, but mere talk tends only to poverty” (Pr. 14:23).
Mere talk doesn’t amount to much.
Anyone can see what’s wrong and point things out.
That takes minimal effort.
But
building?
That takes responsibility, initiative, and exertion.
It takes faith, too.
Think about the men who mocked while Nehemiah’s men were building the wall.
They stood at a distance and criticized.
Meanwhile, others had their hands on the work…. trusting God to bless it.
Scripture honors the builders, not the critics.
And if
we’re honest, we’ve all been there, as critics.
We’ve stood back.
Given our opinion.
And pointed out what could be better.
But God doesn’t call us to stand at a distance.
He calls us to step in somewhere, get involved, and make our contribution.
So think about it…
Have you been putting energy into critiquing that
should be going into building?
Building is better.
God made you for it.
