Manhood involves a mission
Over the years, I’ve been part of many conversations about what defines a man.
Usually the focus is on character traits—initiative, responsibility, sacrifice.
I agree: these are essential.
But something is often missing in descriptions of Christian manhood.
They leave out any mention of mission or purpose.
And so we overlook why God put men on the earth in the first place.
From the first chapter of Genesis, God gave man a mission: to rule and cultivate the earth with Him.
A man’s purpose doesn’t end with growing in character.
Living out of godly character is the means to achieving his greater purpose—to take dominion.
This may sound like splitting hairs… but in a day when so many men lack purpose, it matters.
Excelling in character is a given for every man who follows Christ.
But character is not our lone pursuit…
It’s meant to energize your purpose, as you advance God’s work in the world with Him.
Some might
object:
“Aren’t we to be conformed to the image of Christ? Isn’t that the goal?” (Rom. 8:29)
Indeed.
We are to be shaped into Christ’s character…
As we carry out our mission—just as He carried out His.
Get Dominion,
