Live as a free man
Every man's battle is to live as a free man rather than a slave.
Because if he lives in bondage, he cannot rule the domains God has entrusted to him.
The Apostle Paul makes the nature of the battle clear in Romans 6:
“You are slaves to the one you obey—either of sin, which leads to death, or of obedience, which leads to righteousness” (Rom. 6:16).
The power of our fallen flesh makes this battle fierce.
And it’s made even fiercer in a culture that calls vices—pornography, drunkenness, drugs, gambling—“freedom.”
But when these are practiced in the name of freedom... or when any idol is treasured in the heart... men become slaves to their own
passions.
Slaves can’t fulfill their dominion callings.
Yet the good news of the gospel is that our old self is crucified with Christ.
Sin no longer has dominion over us.
And that means you are free.
So in the daily battle to live as a free man, live every moment in union with Christ.
His death and resurrection alone break sin's mastery.
To seek pleasure or escape in any fleshy idol only enslaves.
But with sin’s dominion broken, any man can win the battle, live free, and cultivate and keep everything God has entrusted to him.
