Making Value Judgments Is Divine
From the beginning of creation, God made value judgments.
He said, “Let there be light,” and saw that it was good (Gen. 1:3–4).
God made similar judgments after each of His creative acts.
And at the end of the sixth day, He saw all that He had made and pronounced it very good (Gen. 1:31).
As those made in God’s image, we too are equipped—and called—to make value judgments.
Yet in our relativistic age, we’re hesitant to do so.
We fear being labeled opinionated, judgmental, or legalistic.
But we must realize:
Making value judgments is part of what it means to be fully human.
Of course, because of the Fall,
our judgments can be distorted.
That’s why we must continually align what we see with God’s revealed standard—His Word.
Only then can our discernment reflect His
perspective.
So don’t forsake your power to evaluate.
Learn from God to distinguish between what is good and evil, true and false, beautiful and ugly.
And use the agency He’s given you to bring goodness, truth, and beauty to your world.
