What are you tolerating?
The Apostle Paul tells us to put off the old and put on the new (Eph. 4:22-24).
Most people look for the obvious applications.
But I’ve found some of the most needed ones by asking:
“What am I tolerating that I know is beneath God’s design for me?”
Think about it.
We all have things we know we should stop, get rid of, or replace.
And we may even be working on doing that.
But we also have things we have
come to quietly tolerate.
Areas we have learned to manage rather than master.
These may involve our health, relationships, finances, spiritual disciplines, habitual
distractions, or ethical standards.
They’re easy to miss because we don’t necessarily feel immediate suffering from them.
And we can live with them for years--even
decades.
Yet they can be a real drag on who God intends you to be...
And what He intends to accomplish through you.
So take some time to do a little self-diagnosis by asking yourself:
"What have I come to tolerate that I know is holding me back from God's best?"
Once you see it clearly, feel the weight of it, put it away, and pursue what God is calling you to do.
You may have made a truce with practices you know are no good for
you.
But God is not done with you.
He is still at work, shaping you into the kind of person you need to be to fully bring your gifts to the world.
Don’t tolerate what you know is intolerable.
