Why So Many Men Lose Heart
In my work with men, I regularly see the same kind of problems.
Unfocused.
Without meaning.
Unmotivated.
Passive.
Anxious.
Depressed.
Falling to the same temptations.
Different lives,
but the same pattern.
Yet over the years, I’ve discovered something important:
Many of these problems lose their power when a man gains a clear sense of
mission.
Most men don’t lack ability or opportunity. They lack a compelling reason to live beyond survival.
Without a mission, life shrinks.
It becomes one obligation after another, mixed with attempts to find relief through distraction and escape.
Drive fades. Discipline weakens. Purpose becomes blurry.
But Scripture offers a different picture.
The Bible is a missional book.
God Himself is on a mission—to develop the world through His image-bearers, who are called to rule and reign with Him.
Adam was given responsibility in the garden.
Abraham was called to move toward an everlasting city.
And Jesus had the mission of accomplishing redemption.
To live “in Christ” is not merely to be forgiven.
It’s to be about the business of His kingdom.
So where do you begin?
Start here:
Acknowledge Christ as Lord over your entire life—not just your private spirituality.
Faithfully cultivate and keep what God has already entrusted to you—your habits, your home, your work, your relationships.
Pray, obey, and watch what God does.
Mission rarely arrives all at once. It grows through faithfulness.
But when a man possesses a mission, the problems that afflict so many begin to loosen their grip.
With God’s help, you can live this way.
“Greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world” (1 Jn. 4:4).
