The Blessing of Boundaries
Recently, I revisited the older, popular Christian book Boundaries.
Doing so brought a fresh sense of gratitude for the limits God Himself ordains.
From the beginning, Scripture shows us boundaries are not burdens but blessings.
God set boundaries for human behavior in the Ten Commandments—not to restrict life, but to protect it.
He established boundaries for Adam in the garden (Genesis 2:16–17)... for Israel in the Law... and even for nations, “having
determined allotted periods and the boundaries of their dwelling place” (Acts 17:26).
Boundaries are woven into God’s design for a faithful life.
We often talk about
vision—and rightly so.
But vision without boundaries quickly becomes blurry.
Without clear limits, distractions multiply, temptations gain ground, and good intentions
drift off course.
Boundaries are what give vision traction.
They help us know when to say yes—and when obedience requires a firm no.
The writer of Proverbs puts it plainly:
“Let your eyes look straight ahead;
fix your gaze directly before you.
Give careful
thought to the paths for your feet…
Do not turn to the right or the left;
keep your foot from evil.”
(Prov. 4:25–27)
A wise place for anyone to start is with God’s
revealed boundaries—like the Ten Commandments.
From there, add personal boundaries that guard time, habits, relationships, and callings, all in dependence on God’s grace.
As this new year is still young, take time to thank God for the blessing of boundaries.
And ask Him to help you establish them—and to give you the strength to live faithfully within them...
So His purpose for you would be fulfilled!
