One of
the clearest themes in Jesus’ ministry is also one of the most neglected today:
The Kingdom of God.
Jesus did not begin by saying, “Invite me into your
heart.”
He began with a proclamation:
“Repent, for the Kingdom of God is at hand.”
From start to finish, Jesus preached, demonstrated, and embodied the Kingdom.
His miracles were not random acts of kindness—they were signs that God’s reign had broken into the world.
His parables explained how the Kingdom grows, challenges loyalties, and demands a response.
His call to discipleship was a call to allegiance to the King.
The gospel is not merely about personal forgiveness—though it includes that.
It is the announcement that Jesus is Lord, and that all of life now falls under His rightful rule.
This is especially fitting during Advent and Christmas.
At Christmas we don’t just celebrate a baby in a manger—we celebrate the arrival of a King.
The angels didn’t announce private spirituality; they announced good news of a kingdom that would bring peace, justice, and restoration.
The long-awaited reign of God had drawn near.
To follow Jesus, then, is to orient our entire lives around His Kingdom:
- our work
- our families
- our habits
- our
priorities
- our obedience
We don’t merely believe certain truths—we live under a reign.
Advent reminds us the Kingdom
has come, is advancing, and will one day be fully revealed.
Until then, we are called to live as faithful citizens of that Kingdom—seeking first His rule and trusting Him with the rest.
