Real Spirituality Isn’t an Escape
A lot of people assume “spiritual” means non-physical.
As if anything tied to the body, the world, or ordinary life is somehow less holy.
It sounds pious, but it’s actually a serious misunderstanding.
And it’s dangerous.
When we equate “spiritual” with “non-physical,” we end up with a faith that hovers above real life.
It creates a disconnect between what we claim to believe and our habits, our relationships, our work, and our responsibilities.
Over time, this split creates a quiet Gnosticism—acting as if God cares about our souls but not our life in the tangible here and now.
Scripture gives us a better, richer picture.
Biblically, “spiritual” doesn’t mean “immaterial.”
It means of the Spirit—guided, empowered, and shaped by the Holy Spirit.
Paul makes this clear throughout his letters.
Even the “spiritual body” of the resurrection isn’t a ghostly form. It’s a real, physical body fully governed by the Spirit.
True spirituality isn’t withdrawal from creation—it’s Spirit-driven engagement with it.
And this matters.
It makes every part of your embodied life an arena for the Spirit’s transforming presence.
Real spirituality doesn’t float. It engages. It sweats. It loves. It endures.
This is spirituality under the Spirit’s influence—not escape, but participation.
