Everything Belongs to Him
Someone asked me yesterday, “What’s your favorite quote?”
That’s hard to answer. I’ve collected hundreds
over the years.
But if I had to pick a favorite, Abraham Kuyper’s rises above them all:
“There is not a square inch in the whole domain of our human existence over which Christ, who is Sovereign over all, does not cry: ‘Mine!’”
I wish every man would make this a favorite.
Why?
Because this one sentence confronts one of the most common misconceptions Christians carry—seeing faith as mostly private, personal, and limited to the devotional or church
realm.
It’s the idea that Christ’s lordship applies when we’re praying, reading Scripture, or sitting in a pew… but that the rest of life is somehow “neutral territory.”
Kuyper punches a hole in that illusion… and points us to
the biblical reality:
Jesus is not Lord of a religious corner of your life—He is Lord of all of it.
Every domain you
touch—your work, your family, your habits, your responsibilities, your creativity, your decisions, your influence—is claimed by Christ.
Not to restrict you, but to restore you to your true purpose.
This truth is liberating.
It means your ordinary, everyday life has weight.
It means your work matters.
Your presence matters.
Your leadership matters.
It means there is no unimportant square inch of your
existence.
Christ says “Mine” over all of it.
That includes every square inch of your life.
“In Him all things hold together.” — Colossians 1:17
