Becoming a Well-Grounded Man
I’m removing a couple of old bougainvillea plants from our backyard.
I thought the hard part was done once I cut off all the thorny branches.
But the real work began when I tried pulling out the trunk and roots.
They’re anchored in the ground far better than I expected.
It made me think of Proverbs 12:3…
“…the root of the righteous will never be moved.”
Most men I know want that.
To be well-grounded.
Stable. Secure.
The kind of man who stands firm year after year, no matter what the world throws at him.
How does a man become tree-rooted like that?
Righteousness.
The problem is we aren’t naturally righteous.
Scripture makes that clear:
“There is no one righteous, not even one” (Rom. 3:10).
But there is a
righteousness that doesn’t originate in us.
There’s the righteousness we receive from Christ through faith—as His perfect obedience counted as ours.
And there’s the
righteousness we grow into as we obey Him, day by day, learning to walk in His ways.
That’s what grounds a man.
It’s what makes him steady in a chaotic
world.
As Psalm 1 says, he becomes “like a tree planted by streams of water,” unmoved by drought or storm.
Are you seeking a more stable life?
Want deeper roots in everything you’re facing?
Pursue the righteousness that comes from Christ and grows through obedience.
It’s God’s way to become well-grounded.
“Everyone who practices righteousness is born of Him” (1 John 2:29).
