Pain as a Path to Life
Pain is normal in a fallen world.
Every man feels it.
Regret, disappointment, difficulty, emotional strain—and yes, physical pain.
None of us escapes
it.
Our instinct is to avoid pain.
Run from it. Numb it. Distract ourselves so we don’t have to face what hurts.
Sometimes that’s understandable. Not all pain is meant to be embraced.
But here’s the truth we forget:
God often leads us through pain because He intends to bring life out of it.
Pain refines us.
It exposes our
limits.
It reminds us that we depend on our Creator and Redeemer.
And it forms us in ways comfort never will.
That’s why dodging pain is often the worst decision we can make—especially when God is calling you into something hard that will stretch you, cost you, or break your self-reliance.
Jesus made this clear when He said: “Take
up your cross and follow Me.”
He didn’t say to avoid the cross. He told us to carry it.
And here’s what we miss:
The path of carrying the cross—the path of self-denial and pain—is the path to life.
It’s the road where sacrifice leads to strength, obedience leads to freedom, and dying to self leads to resurrection life.
Following Jesus isn’t about escaping pain.
It’s about walking through it with Him and discovering the life on the other side.
So let me ask you:
Are you avoiding something hard God wants to use to make you alive?
Lean into it with Him.
Trust His purpose in your pain.
This is the way of life.
