The Skill Every Man Needs
When life falls apart, most men do one of three things—they despair, pursue an escape, or try to power through
in their own strength.
David shows us a better way.
In 1 Samuel 30, he returned to find his city burned, his family taken, and his men ready to stone him.
He was a man under pressure, and everything in him could have collapsed.
Yet Scripture says he practiced a vital skill:
“But he strengthened himself in the Lord his God.”
David didn’t pretend to be strong, but he didn’t wilt either.
He turned to the Source of strength.
He sought God’s direction, trusted His word, and obeyed His call.
Through this, God fortified David and
restored what was lost.
You and I face different battles, but the principle is the same.
We must train ourselves to turn upward rather than cave inward when pressure
mounts.
You do this through the ordinary means of grace—
Worship: Lift your eyes off yourself and onto Him.
The Word: Let truth reshape what you feel.
Prayer: Receive the strength that overcomes
weakness.
Meditation: Dwell on His promises that bring clarity and hope.
These aren’t religious boxes to check. They’re
lifelines for men who refuse to be ruled by fear or fatigue.
Every man will either succumb to pressure or find strength in his God.
So develop the skill of
strengthening yourself in Him.
It will equip you for the tests that are sure to come.
