Playground or Battleground?
Many men treat life like a playground—a
place to chase comfort and pleasure.
But Scripture says it’s a battleground—a field of conflict where truth, goodness, and purpose are constantly tested.
Adam’s first calling included guarding the garden against adversaries (Gen. 2:15).
Paul reminds us, we wrestle not against flesh and blood (Eph. 6:12).
Peter adds, the devil prowls like a roaring lion (1 Pet. 5:8).
Life, then, is not about pursuing a vacation—it’s a mission.
Yet, this battle is
not joyless.
When Nehemiah faced opposition rebuilding Jerusalem’s walls, he declared, “The joy of the Lord is your strength” (Neh. 8:10).
Even on the front lines, God
gives us joy that steadies the heart.
And the best news—our victory is already won.
“There is no longer any condemnation for those who belong to Christ” (Rom. 8:1).
“He disarmed the powers and authorities and made a public example of them, triumphing over them” (Col. 2:15).
Because of this, we stand with Christ, seated in heavenly places (Eph. 2:6)…
…fighting from a place of victory—not struggling to earn it.
So today, how do you see the world?
As a playground to enjoy or a battleground to engage?
The good soldier of Christ doesn’t despise joy, but he never mistakes it for the mission.
He fights with courage, anchored in Christ’s triumph.
“No soldier gets entangled in civilian pursuits, since his aim is to please the one who enlisted him” (2 Timothy 2:4).
