The Truth About Pride
Every day this month I’ve been posting a Bible verse about pride on X.
Why?
Because our
culture is deeply confused about it.
While many celebrate pride as a virtue, Scripture sees it as a vice—the vice, in fact.
Pride isn’t just a character flaw.
It’s the root of all sin.
As C.S. Lewis put it:
“The essential vice, the utmost evil, is Pride... it was through Pride
that the devil became the devil... it is the complete anti-God state of mind.”
Pride drives us away from God and into ourselves.
It bears rotten fruit in every life
it grips.
But there’s a way out: humility.
The Bible doesn’t just warn us about pride—it calls us to lay it down and walk in
submission to God.
“A man’s pride will bring him low,
But a humble spirit will obtain honor.”
—Proverbs 29:23
“God opposes the proud,
But gives grace to the humble.”
—James 4:6
“Humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God,
That He may exalt
you at the proper time.”
—1 Peter 5:6
Pride pushes us to live on our own terms. Humility brings us back to God's.
This isn’t just for “those people over there.”
It’s for me. It’s for you. It’s for all of us.
So today—reject
pride. Embrace humility.
It’s the only way to become who God made you to be.
