Some
paths feel safe—until they suddenly aren’t.
Author Seth Godin calls this "the Cliff":
A path that seems fine now, maybe even rewarding, but ends in a
fall.
You don’t feel the damage today—and that’s what makes it dangerous.
Scripture warns:
“There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death.” — Proverbs 14:12
Cliffs are everywhere:
– Porn feels like stress relief, until it deadens your soul.
– Overwork feels like duty, until your marriage cracks.
– Passivity at home feels like peace, until you've lost your kids.
– Withdrawal feels safe, until bitterness or explosion takes over.
The
problem?
We don’t always see the fall coming—until it’s too late.
But wisdom doesn’t wait for the crash:
“A prudent man sees danger and hides himself, but the simple go on and suffer for it.” — Proverbs 22:3
Ask God:
Where am I on a path that feels okay but I know is wrong?
What do I need to quit before it kills something good?
The Lord calls us to life—when walking along the cliff feels familiar and comfortable.
“Today I have set before you life and death… therefore choose life.” — Deuteronomy 30:19
Don’t wait for the fall.
Walk away from the cliff.
Choose life.
