We
rightly emphasize the heart.
We know our actions flow from it (Matt. 15:18–20).
And we believe only God can change it (Ezek. 36:26; Acts 16:14).
But here’s where many get stuck:
They assume every impulse or desire that rises up from the heart is untouchable—outside their responsibility or influence.
So they stay stuck.
Enslaved to moods, impulses, and sinful patterns.
But Scripture doesn’t leave us trapped without a way forward.
Yes—God gives us a new heart by grace.
But then
He tells us to watch over it (Prov. 4:23)…
To incline it (Ps. 119:36)…
To store it with His word (Ps. 119:11)…
To set it to seek Him (1 Chron. 22:19)…
And not to harden it (Heb. 3:15).
That means you can train your heart.
You can shape its tendencies.
Not perfectly. Not apart from grace.
But truly and meaningfully.
This is where godly dominion begins—
Right at the source: the heart.
If the desires of your heart are getting you in trouble, you’re not without recourse.
By God’s grace, you can
train your heart.
“Now set your heart and your soul to seek the Lord your God.”
—1 Chronicles 22:19
