One of
the most familiar identity metaphors Jesus gives us is this:
You are the salt of the earth. You are the light of the world (Mt.5:13–14).
Salt preserves. It
flavors.
Light reveals. It drives out darkness.
This is what your life is meant to do.
But Jesus also warns us—salt can lose its saltiness. Light can be hidden.
When that happens, our presence no longer slows decay or exposes truth.
What threatens that most?
-The fear of man.
-The love of the world.
-Living independently from God.
These subtle compromises may feel like self-protection... but they actually rob the world of what God intends to give through your life.
Saltless salt isn’t neutral—it’s useless.
Hidden light doesn’t just dim—it allows darkness to reign.
But there’s hope.
You can shine. You can bring savor to your world.
And it isn’t about trying harder to be impactful—it’s about abiding in Christ.
He is the true
Light of the world. His Spirit in you makes your life effective.
So don’t hide what He’s placed in you.
Speak the truth. Stand firm.
Let your good works shine.
The world is decaying and dark.
But God has put you where you are as an agent of renewal.
