Prayers are worth more than opinions
When bombs fall, nations tremble, and uncertainty grips the world, opinions abound.
We debate motives, question strategy, predict outcomes, and opine on what leaders should do next.
But Scripture calls us to a different posture: not one of endless speculation, but of humble, confident
prayer.
Why are our prayers more valuable than our opinions?
Opinions do not move heaven--but prayer does.
"The prayer of a righteous man has great power..." (James 5:16).
Opinions make us think we can explain what's happening—but prayer brings peace.
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God… will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:6-7).
Opinions focus on what man can do—but prayer appeals to what God alone can do.
“The Lord brings the counsel of the nations to nothing; he frustrates the plans of the peoples. The counsel of the Lord stands forever” (Psalm 33:10-11).
Opinions easily divide us—but prayer unites us in dependence on God.
“I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions…” (1 Timothy
2:1-2).
The logical application of all this is simple...
Less time weighing in, and more time bowing down...
Petitioning the Lord — who “removes kings and sets up kings” (Daniel 2:21), who “turns the heart of the king wherever He wills” (Proverbs 21:1), who “rules over the nations” (Psalm 22:28).
In uncertain times, prayer
is not our last resort.
It is our first and greatest work.
Let’s seek Him for mercy. Let’s ask for peace. And let’s remain faithful in the callings He’s entrusted to
us.
