Why convictions matter more than opinions
I saw this the other day and have been mulling it over ever since...
The German poet Heinrich Heine was once asked why men no longer build great cathedrals.
He replied: "People in those old times had convictions; we moderns only have opinions. And it needs more than a mere
opinion to erect a Gothic cathedral."
That's an astute observation.
Most medieval cathedrals took anywhere from 50 to 150 years to build.
The Cologne Cathedral in Germany that took over 600 years.
You don’t commit to something like that with a mere opinion.
It takes conviction.
Because conviction gives you:
-The vision
to see the end result
-The strength to overcome obstacles
-The ingenuity to persevere through setbacks
And this isn’t just about cathedrals.
It applies to anything God has called you to:
-Raising a family
-Starting a business
-Or pursuing a project He’s laid on your heart
These days, opinions are everywhere.
But convictions are rare.
Yet only convictions will sustain you to the finish.
Opinions may shape conversations for a moment.
Convictions shape lives for generations.
“Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen” (Heb. 11:1).
Take inventory of your convictions today.
