The 4 Kinds of Love (According to C.S. Lewis)
The world is thinking and talking about love today.
But what is love?
It’s more than just flowers and chocolates.
C.S. Lewis described four kinds of love—each revealing something about our relationships and even about God:
Storge (Affection) – The quiet, familiar love of family and close bonds. The love that says, "You belong."
Philia (Friendship) – The chosen love of kindred spirits, built on shared values and mutual respect.
Eros (Romantic Love) – The
deep longing for union—passionate yet self-giving at its best.
Agape (Selfless Love) – The highest love, given without expecting anything in return—the love God has for us.
Each love has its place. But only agape can sustain the rest.
This is the love that lays down one’s life for others—wherever God calls you.
Hard to do.
But as Lewis put it:
"To love at all is to be
vulnerable."
So today, whether you’re celebrating with someone or reflecting on love’s deeper meaning—how can you give love in a way that reflects God’s heart?
