Finding your way in the world
The Bible uses the word world (or cosmos) in different ways.
Many of the uses are negative.
For example, the Bible describes the world as…
… a corrupt system that’s hostile to God (Eph. 2:2)
… a source of many stumbling blocks (Mt. 18:7)
… and an order of life that keeps us from the love of the Father (1 Jn.2:17).
Yet, despite the world’s hostility to God, He doesn't give up on it.
In fact…
He loves the world so much He gave His Son to save it (Jn. 3:16).
And He calls us amidst the darkness of this world to be lights in it (Phil. 2:15)…
… living with the assurance that Jesus has overcome the world (Jn. 16:33).
Every man is seeking to find his way in the world.
And the challenge
for every man is to escape the world’s corruptions while brightening the place God has called him…
As he uses his gifts and plays his part in building His city.
“You
are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden; nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Your light must shine before people in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven (Mt.5:14-16).
