Dominion through service
On the evening before He was put on
trial and crucified, Jesus washed the feet of His disciples.
He did this to demonstrate the way they were to carry on after He was gone.
They were to devote themselves to loving service.
This is also the way His disciples are to bring His dominion to the world.
You see, in addition to bringing forgiveness
and new life, Jesus came to restore God's kingdom on earth.
The way He fulfilled His part in this was not to seize worldly power as many assumed the Messiah would...
But by serving and giving His life.
His followers are to do likewise... as they fulfill their own place in advancing His kingdom today.
The
emphasis on service is key to this whole dominion thing.
We don't further God's agenda by force.
Rather by laying down our lives for others in the places He's called us.
Jesus shows us the way.
"Your kingdom come. Your will be done, On earth as it is in heaven" (Mt.6:10).
