After the birth
of Jesus a devout man named Simeon said to His mother Mary:
"This child is appointed for the fall and rising of many..." (Luke 2:34).
Truer words could not have been spoken.
Jesus -- as the Son of God -- is the One through whom all the rulers and powerful of this age are either raised up or brought down.
Yet
even more...
He is the One through whom every soul is either restored and remade or left to pride and self-ruin.
In this way...
Everyone must come to terms with the Son given to us (Isa. 9:6).
In the end...
What we make of our lives comes down to what we do with Jesus...
And whether we:
Abide in Him...
Follow Him into the chaos...
And align ourselves with His agenda -- rather than follow our own.
Simeon's comment about Jesus being appointed for the fall and rising of many was entirely true 2000
years ago.
And it's still true today.
"Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, so that He may exalt you at the proper time" (1 Pet. 5:6).
