The other day I
was listening to an interview with the dirty jobs guy, Mike Rowe.
In the interview he was explaining how there is a serious shortage of skilled tradesmen.
In some cases it's because you can't find people who want to work.
In others it's because the trades aren't viewed as significant.
This is
certainly contrary to God's order of things.
God made us to work.
Some will labor with digits on a computer screen.
Others are cut out to work with people or ideas.
And then there are those who can fix a leaky roof.
All have their place and are important.
Unfortunately, trades can be looked down on as an inferior kind of work.
But I have to tell you...
Here in Florida... I love and have great respect for my HVAC guy who keeps my air conditioner running.
Also...
There is a long history of tradesmen
in the Bible.
The Old Testament speaks of the craftsmen who were filled with the Spirit to prepare the Tabernacle.
And Jesus Himself was a skilled builder.
The important think is to see there's a place for everyone when it comes to ruling and cultivating God's world.
And there's a place for you.
The key is to discover what that place is at every stage of life and carry it out unto the Lord.
"There is nothing better for a man than to eat and drink and tell himself that his labor is good" (Ecc. 2:24).
