Advent is a time
to prepare.
Not so much in terms of getting ready for Christmas celebrations...
But to receive Him who is the "light of the world."
As the light, Jesus exposes...
He exposes what is crooked, dishonest and shameful.
We find this uncomfortable, but it leads to life...
And it makes repentance the most fitting way to prepare during Advent.
We tend to avoid thinking about repentance because we assume it has to do with
God being mad at us.
But it's much more accurate to associate repentance with God graciously coming alongside us to change our mind about something the Spirit is revealing to our hearts...
And He does this so we would let go of whatever sins and ways of thinking that are outside of His will...
... so we can thrive by living according to the design He has for us as redeemed humans.
In this way...
Advent is a time to clean house...
And repentance is picking certain things up and taking them to the trash...
So we would quit stumbling around in our own darkness...
And walk in His light
to fulfill the good works He's prepared for us (Eph.2:10).
"Let every heart prepare Him room."
Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life” (Jn. 8:12).
