Whenever I walk
the dog early in the morning or late at night I make a habit of surveying the dark sky.
It reminds me of our Creator's greatness, since the heavens declare the glory of God (Ps.19:1).
Interestingly, one of the less familiar metaphors Jesus uses to describe Himself is "the bright morning star" (Rev.22:16).
This is undoubtedly a reference to Venus... the brightest of all planets, often seen just before dawn.
Some wonder why Jesus would identify Himself with Venus, a well-known pagan goddess.
But this
is not hard to explain... if we accept that as the One through whom all things are made, Jesus has the right to use any part of creation He wants to teach and encourage us.
So what does Jesus as the
Morning Star actually mean for us?
It reveals that...
Just as seeing Venus in the pre-dawn sky communicates you made it through a rough night, so does knowing Jesus give you the hope of an eternal morning that overshadows all your problems.
It tells us...
Though we live in a world
afflicted with sorrow and death... Jesus is the resurrection and life who wipes away every tear.
And while will live in a world filled with sin and corruption... He is the King of kings and heir of the
nations who is making all things new.
So are you feeling oppressed by darkness?
Remember Jesus, our Morning Star.
Because of Him there is hope.
And there is good reason to get going with whatever He's given you to do today.
"... the people living in darkness have seen a great light" (Matt. 4:16).
